We hope that everyone has had a safe and happy holiday season and is ready to start thinking about softball!

The AAGSL is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the spring 2021 season at  www.aagsl.org.  We understand that you will have many questions about what the upcoming season will look like given the continued impact of COVID-19 on our daily lives.  It's ok, we all have the very same questions.

First and foremost, we will continue to be focused on the safety of our players, coaches, umpires and families as we determine what type of season will take place.

We are planning on holding a normal spring season where our older divisions (10U and older) will compete in the Valley League as we have done in the past.  Competing in the Valley League means Abington teams will play at Hillside as well as travel to surrounding areas, such as Throop, Olyphant, Carbondale, etc.  In the event that we do not believe this could be done in a safe and reasonable manner, we will evaluate holding another in-house league (where all games are played at Hillside Park between Abington teams) as we did in our 2020 season. In any event, the AAGSL will continue to follow the guidance and recommendations of state and local authorities and we expect that we will have many of the same COVID protocols in place regardless of whether we are playing in the Valley League or conduct another in-house league.

There are a few changes planned for the 2021 season.  Due to changing registration numbers, we will be reverting back to our traditional age group divisions to help realign our league with the rest of the area and to make sure we have the appropriate number of teams in each age group division.  Age group divisions will be: 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U.  Our 6U and 8U leagues will primarily be in-house.  Players in our 6U (tee ball) age group division must be 4 years old as of January 1st to participate.  For our 8U age group division, there will be opportunities to schedule a select number of games with other local teams this spring.  Our 10U, 12U and 14U divisions will continue to compete in the Valley League with other area teams.  We will not have a 10U Developmental league for 2021.  For those of you who have participated in our 10U Developmental division in the past, we will be taking many of the positive attributes of that division and incorporating them into our 8U division.  Primarily, girls will begin learning to pitch in the 8U division this year.  We expect the season to begin as coach-pitch and then transition to a combination of coach-pitch and player-pitch throughout the season. We have seen this practice successfully implemented in other areas and expect it will help further develop our players' skills as they prepare to move into 10U and full player-pitching.

AAGSL will continue to offer an early-registration discount for registrations made through Sunday, January 31, 2021.  Early registration will continue to be $90 per player with discounts for families with multiple children registering.  Registration starting Monday, February 1, 2021 through Sunday, March 7, 2021 will be $100 per player.  Late registration after Sunday, March 7, 2021 will be $120.  Due to roster submittal requirements with the Valley League, registration for 10U and older age groups will officially close on March 7th.  You will not be guaranteed a spot on a team in those age groups after March 7th.  Registration for our younger age group divisions will be open through the end of March.  Those who have rolled over your registration from last year, please contact us and we will get you registered for 2021.

 

The League will continue to provide jerseys, socks, pants and belts.
